Nine couples competed for charity this year, compared to seven couples last year. It’s the most that have participated in the fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit the Samaritan Center, which provides mental health counseling. The Samaritan Center does not publicize how much money the event raises.
Event co-chair Randy Lipps said that the “connection with the audience makes it very entertaining.”
The event sold out about three weeks ago, and the couples started practicing in August. Event co-chair Juli Meyer said that more people want to participate now, and they have more professionals who can partner up with their “stars.”
The participants work exclusively with “That’s Dancing” studio in Elkhart, according to Lipps. Some former “stars” now participate in the fundraiser as the experienced dancers.
