ELKHART — A woman who walked into her house Thursday afternoon during a home invasion was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The woman, who lives on Cyrilla Drive, walked into her house Thursday afternoon and discovered a man inside. She told police she was standing near the entrance and as the suspect ran through the door he pushed her out of the way, knocking her against the entryway, said Sgt. Dan Colson of the Elkhart Police Department.

The suspect ran away before police arrived. Colson said nothing was stolen from the residence, and the woman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, to be treated for her injuries.

A neighbor of the victim who refused to identify herself for fear of being targeted said though they have spoken briefly she knew the woman worked usually at night, so she came home during the day.

She said she had heard of other burglaries around the neighborhood and now leaves her car unlocked for fear someone will break in to try to steal items inside.

“They’ve had a lot of (home) invasions in this area,” she said. “It’s a really nice community but I know some will watch you and target your house when you’re out.”
