ELKHART — A standoff between police and a man armed with a handgun at a gas station ended peacefully this morning.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call at 4:53 a.m. in reference to a suicidal man inside of a vehicle who was armed with a handgun in the parking lot of a gas station in the 57700 block of S.R. 19.

After an hour and a half, police took the man into custody and transported him to Elkhart General Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
