ELKHART — A wind advisory will be in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds increased as Hurricane Sandy moved west into the mid-Atlantic states Monday night into today. Locations along the Lake Michigan shore line and northwestern Ohio were expected to see gusts reaching 60 mph this morning.

Unsecured, small objects can be picked up with these strong winds. According to the NWS, power outages are also expected as small branches may be broken off trees and fall onto power lines.

Drivers of lightweight and high profile vehicles are asked to exercise caution. The Indiana Toll Road announced Monday a wind ban will be in place until 2 p.m. today, at which point the wind ban will be re-evaluated.

The wind ban is in effect for all triple-trailers, long-doubles and high-profile oversize permit loads.
