Local pastor celebrates retirement with worship service, luncheon

ELKHART — The Rev. Stephen B. Braden of First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart is celebrating his retirement with a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church followed by a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Matterhorn Restaurant.

Braden has been the pastor and head of staff for the church since 2000. Under his leadership, the church has raised more than $1.2 million, began a new worship service called The Bridge and began many new programs for missionary work and spiritual growth.

The Rev. Nan M. Adams will become the interim head of staff/senior pastor while the church searches for a permanent replacement. The Rev. David Lawrence of Niles, Mich., will become the interim minister for The Bridge.
