Middlebury man who hit teen scheduled for initial hearing
He is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in serious bodily injury, a class D felony.
Rulli was driving south on C.R. 35 the night of July 10 when he struck Carlstrom. He told police he thought he hit a deer and continued driving to Fort Wayne. He came forward to police the next day through his attorney, according to court documents.
Carlstrom was taken to Memorial hospital in South Bend with injuries to her head and legs. After going through therapy in a rehabilitation center in Indianapolis she was brought back to her Middlebury home, where she continues to recover.
According to court documents, Rulli's father Sam called Miller's Garage of Middlebury to tow the vehicle back from Fort Wayne.
In a story earlier this week, the Elkhart Truth inaccurately reported that the vehicle was taken to a repair shop.
Bill Beckford of Miller's Garage said Friday Rulli asked him to take it from Fort Wayne to an impound lot in Goshen, where it remains.
Miller's Garage repairs large vehicles such as semi-tractors, but doesn't repair autos.
