Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County raised more than $99,000 during its Fall Dinner Auction on Oct. 19. It is the largest fundraising event in the agency’s history. More than 250 people came out to the fourth annual event, which included dinner and live and silent auctions.

BBBS Executive director Stephanie Patka said the event has tripled the amount it has raised in the four years of its history. The event began in 2009.

“It’ll enable to increase our focus in recruitment of new members,” she said.

There were more attendees at this year’s auction as well as more and better auction items up for grabs. The fundraiser also inspired some people to sign up for mentoring spots within the organization. The event was held at Elcona Country Club and honored the 2011 State of Indiana Big Family of the Year, David and Karen Rohm.

“The success we saw at the auction is indicative of the amount of support we’re getting from the community,” Patka said.
