Quick Bites: Special meals planned in coming days

There was news that couldn't wait until Monday.
Like the wine dinner that's happening Friday at McCarthy's on the Riverwalk.
Tiedemann Wines and the restaurant will offer food, beverage and education at 6 p.m. Friday for $45 plus tax and tip.
Chef and food/beverate director Javier Mendez said the menu will include chicken milanesa, empanadas, margherita-style pizza and sorrentino, which are large ravioli. Carl Tiedemann and Flavio Vietti, a native of Argentina and resident of Chicago, will serve as sommeliers.
For reservations, call 574-293-2830. The event begins at 6 p.m. Friday.
• Two other special meals are planned for Thursday, Oct. 25. The 17th annual Signature Chefs Auction is planned at the Palais Royale to benefit the March of Dimes. A number of South Bend restaurants and businesses will provide cuisine. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. LaSalle Grill is having a dinner with Dark Horse Brewing Co., based in Marshall, Mich. The cost is $75 per person plus tax and tip. Four courses plus hors d'ouevres will be paired with beers. Reservations/information: 574-288-1155
• You can still register for Taste of Downtown Goshen, an event on Oct. 27 to benefit Center for Healing & Hope. Tickets are $44 per person for a series of meals from three restaurants. A total of nine restaurants are participating. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday. Information/reservations: 574-534-4744 or firstname.lastname@example.org
• I haven't gotten final numbers yet, but Michele Scherpenberg, who was involved in planning Elkhart Dining Days, said eight of the 18 restaurants reporting, 541 deals had been served over the 13 days, resulting in $1,082 for Church Community Services. Some of those were two-for-$25 deals, so 727 meals had been served at those restaurants.
• Linus was always disappointed in “Peanuts” that the Great Pumpkin didn't visit him in the pumpkin patch, but I'm rarely disappointed with the array of pumpkin dishes this time of year. I've heard good things about the pumpkin crepes at Golden Egg Pancake House, Elkhart. IHOP and Culver's have pumpkin items on their menus. Where are your favorite pumpkin dishes and what are they? I'll tell you some of my favorites on Monday.
