ELKHART — One person was airlifted after a crash on C.R. 6, west of C.R. 11, Sunday afternoon.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Vincent Sandefur, 35, of Cassopolis, Mich., was driving east on C.R. 6 around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the pickup truck he was driving lost control on wet pavement, went off the road and ran into the back of a semitrailer. The trailer had been parked off the road on the south side.

Sandefur sustained only minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s department, but the passenger in the pickup, Matthew Sandefur, 46, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.

After the extrication, Matthew Sandefur was airlifted from the scene and taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries including two broken legs. Vincent Sandefur was taken to Elkhart General Hospital by ambulance for treatment of cuts on his arms.
