Elkhart board of safety tables towing agreement discussion
Board member Robert Woods requested they table the discussion to give him and board member Andy Jones more time to read the agreement. They may discuss the agreement in their next meeting, on Oct. 23. These are the proposed changes in the fees:
•The maximum towing fee allowable could go up to $130 from the current $120.
•Winch and recovery fee could be $85 per hour, up $7 from the current hourly fee.
•Outside and inside storage fees could go up to $30 and $55 per day respectively, from the current $25 and $52 daily fees.
•Environmental charge accident fees could go up $2 from $11.
•After-hours gate fees could go from $47 to $50.
The 2013 agreement also has an added section explaining Indiana Code 22-5-1.7, in which the contractor shall enroll in and verify the work-eligibility status of all of its newly-hired employees using the E-Verify program.
Jones said the towing companies were the ones that suggested the new fees, but he said the agreement is not finalized and the projected fees could change.
The current towing service agreement expires Dec. 12.
