ELKHART — Karen K. Garl Grise, 55, of Elkhart, was found deceased at home Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, of natural causes.
She was born April 14, 1957, in Elkhart, to Max C. and E. Virginia Garl.
She married Jack E. Grise in the late 1980s.
She is survived by her twin sister, Kathy (Bob) Burris and her only niece, Laura J. (Tim) Parsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Max in June 2009 and E. Virginia in May 1989 and an infant daughter, Cassandra Atchley.
In her younger years she worked at G&L Land Surveying.
She had been a volunteer for Harvest Basket and was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” at one time.
She attended Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.
Karen graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1975.
She was one of six pairs of twins to graduate that year, which was a novelty and was featured on the front page of The Elkhart Truth.
Her family wishes to thank her home health care nurse, Dana, who was a treasured friend and the library employees who provided her with books through the “Homebound Program.”
Karen had been is declining health for many years.
Cremation has taken place and burial will take place in Rice Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be given to Elkhart Public Library.
