Memorial High School band won for the first time since entering competition eight years ago at the Fort Wayne Homestead Marching Band Invitational Saturday.

The school competed schools that have made it to semi state-finals in years past and won for best music caption.

“The last two weeks have been an a pretty marked improvement. Not only what they do but in how they rehearse, and that certainly is the biggest contributing factor,” said Kurt Weimer, band director for Memorial High School.

“We do a lot to keep track of their improvement and use all that data to figure out how or where to improve,” Weimer said.

The marching band will go to regionals next Saturday, Oct. 13, in Chesterton.
