ELKHART — Three people were taken to Elkhart General Hospital Friday morning, following a three-vehicle accident in downtown Elkhart.

Police and fire units responded to the intersection of Franklin and Second Streets around 10:50 a.m.

Sgt. Dan Colson from the Elkhart Police Department said a brown SUV was going west on Franklin Street turning right onto Second Street when it collided with a silver car, which in turn hit a red car.

The passenger of the silver was car was trapped and was cut out from the vehicle around 11:15 a.m. Both the driver and the passenger were taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Colson said.

The driver of the red vehicle and her baby, who was on the back seat of the car, were not injured. The driver of the SUV was not injured either.

The intersection of Franklin and Second has reopened for traffic.

Note: An earlier version of this story stated the driver of the SUV turned left from Franklin Street onto Second Street. That error has been corrected.
