SOUTH BEND — Rosie Lee (Gary) Smith, 70, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at home at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.

She was born May 27, 1942, in Caruthers, Mo., to Victor and Leola (Haney) Gary. In 1979, she and Orlin Harris were married in South Bend.

He survives, along with children Glenda Bailey and Tina Bryant of South Bend, Tonette Bailey of Milwaukee, Shela Jackson of Elkhart, Terry Bailey of Buchannan, Mich., and Clifford (Glenda M.) Bailey, Jerry Bailey and Derrick (Angie) Harris, all of South Bend; 39 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Lillie Jones of South Bend; special daughter Brenda Parker of Elkhart; and best friend Valerie Jordan of Washington D.C.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, children Kimberly Bailey and Creighton Hale and siblings Dorothy, Johnny, Joe, Ophelia, Eddie, Herbert, Bob, Lucy and Thomas.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, Elkhart. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
