Middlebury teen flown to South Bend hospital following accident

MIDDLEBURY — A teenager was flown to Memorial Hospital South Bend Tuesday night after a single-vehicle crash on C.R. 22, just two miles west of the city limits of Middlebury. He remained in serious condition this morning, Oct. 3.

Tyler Beachy, 19, of Middlebury, was driving a sedan east on C.R. 22, just west of C.R. 35 around 9:30 p.m., when he traveled off the roadway, hitting several trees on the property of 14897 C.R. 22, according to a crash report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle received front end damage and Beachy was not wearing a seat belt.

Beachy sustained injuries to his to his right knee and right arm. He also may have sustained internal injuries, according to the report.

He was issued a citation for not wearing a seat belt and for speeding.
