The workers were replacing concrete in front of a home in the 20700 block of River’s Edge Drive when they hit a gas line with their backhoe, causing a leak, according to Ryan Rheinheimer, assistant fire chief for Elkhart Township Fire Department.
No one in the neighborhood was evacuated, Rheinheimer said.
The gas line was a supply line for a residence, he said.
