One dies in toll road crash Sunday morning
A fatal crash on the Indiana Toll Road halted traffic in the eastbound lanes early Sunday morning.
Indiana State Police responded to the 72 mile marker around 1:20 a.m. and found a semi tractor trailer that had struck a bridge pillar, according to a press release from state police. The driver of the semi tractor trailer died in the crash at the South Bend west exit.
Police say the driver is from Atlanta, but have not yet released his name, pending notification of the family.
Both eastbound lanes were initially closed while crews worked to clean the scene, and the right eastbound lane remained closed for some time after the crash, but both lanes were open by Sunday evening.
The crash remains under investigation.
