Elkhart Memorial student killed in Friday crash

ELKHART — A teenage girl died following a crash on John Weaver Parkway Friday morning that also hospitalized two others, according to police.

The girl, a student at Memorial High School, died at Elkhart General Hospital, according to Lt. Laura Koch, public information officer for the Elkhart Police Department.

The accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on John Weaver Parkway involving a car and SUV, said Koch.

The deceased was a passenger in the car. The driver, a male, was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Three people were sent to the hospital and the roadway was closed for some time after a two-vehicle crash

John Weaver Parkway was closed to traffic between C.R. 6 and C.R. 10 until 11:15 a.m. Friday.

The Elkhart Police Department is still investigating the crash.
