CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — Fred D. Walters, 85, of Cassopolis, passed away at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, in his home.
He was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., to Fred O. and Eaulah M. (Cherry) Walters.
On July 11, 1953, in Elkhart, he married Doris A. Killinger.
She survives along with three children, Daniel A. (Sue) Walters, M.D., of Seymour, Ind., Andrew J. (Trish) Walters of Cassopolis and Peggy (Tim) Emeis of Wellborn, Fla.; four grandchildren, Rachel Emeis, Reid Walters, Lake Walters and Cole Walters; and one brother, Nole (Rosie) Walters of Cassopolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Walters and Eaulah Cherry.
Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II.
He was a member of Creekside Church of the Brethren, Kane Masonic Lodge 183, Elkhart, and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.,
Fred enjoyed fishing.
He was formerly employed at Studebaker in South Bend, and he worked for numerous tool and die job shops and as a tool and die maker for 20 years at CTS, retiring in 1989.
Fred and five others from Elkhart were undefeated in football at Ball State University in 1949.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Creekside Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Creekside Church of the Brethren. Pastors Janet Shaver and Rosanna McFadden will preside.
Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
