NEW PARIS — A Goshen woman was killed early tonight, Sept. 8, in a single-vehicle accident in southern Elkhart County.

Chandra Fernandez, 33, was traveling east on U.S. 6 east of C.R. 23 at 6:06 p.m. when her Chevy Lumina crossed the westbound lane and ran off the north side of the road, according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Fernandez’s vehicle rolled over and stopped in a cornfield, leaving her pinned underneath the van. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Fernandez was wearing her seat belt.

The Elkhart County Crash Team is investigating the accident.
