Chad Weddle, 19, of 19679 Riverview Drive, was arrested October 11, 2011, after police were called by several residents stating they had some items stolen from their homes.
Some of the items that were stolen included jewelry, video game systems, cash and a laptop, according to the probable cause affidavit. On May 29, Weddle pleaded guilty to the five counts of burglary, all Class B Felonies and two counts of theft, Class D Felonies.
On Monday, Superior Court Judge Stephen Bowers sentenced Weddle to 10 years in prison and four years on probation for each of the Class B felonies. Weddle was also sentenced to two years in prison, with the authorization to serve his two counts of theft through the Elkhart County Community Corrections.
Bowers said the aggravators in this case outweighed the mitigators, because of Weddle’s juvenile record, the fact that at least two of his victims were over 65 years of age, because he violated a position of trust and because of the number of offenses in a short period of time.
