Don’t get caught by gift card scam

Cass County — Cass County Michigan Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. is warning residents to be wary of getting a post card in the mail that offers $100 in gift cards in return for information and a small fee.



The post cards provide a confirmation number that the recipient can use to claim a gift cards from companies including Wal-Mart, Target or Meijers.



The recipient is told to call an 800 number and is asked to provide personal information and credit card numbers. The return address is listed as being in Herndon, VA.



Citizens are urged to use extreme caution when dealing with such offers through the mail, over the phone or through the internet.
