7-year-old Elkhart shooting victim dies

According to Lt. Laura Koch, Elkhart Police Department information officer, Kristyana Jackson died Sunday in the hospital.
Kristyana had been in critical condition at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after being shot in the head Friday night. She underwent emergency brain surgery that night to combat brain swelling.
Kristyana's father, John Jackson, was also shot during the invasion attempt but was treated and released from Elkhart General Hospital.
The two were shot when three men tried to enter the family's home around 10:45 p.m. as Kristyana and her mother returned from the Elkhart Memorial football game.
The Elkhart Police Department is investigating the shootings. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the EPD at 295-7070.
