UPDATE: An autopsy has been performed. The cause of death is pending further tests.



ELKHART — A woman was found dead in an Elkhart residence Thursday afternoon.

Baugo paramedics and the sheriff’s department responded to a call around 2:48 p.m. at 29118 Norman Court for a woman who was unconscious and not breathing.

Gabriela Avila-Claros, 36, was found deceased in a bedroom located in the basement. The cause of death is unknown, but the sheriff’s department does not suspect foul play at this time. The Elkhart County coroner will perform an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department’s public information officer Capt. James Bradberry.
