This community (all of us) will answer the call and we do it often.

In this case the “Michiana USO Golf Fundraiser” is in its fifth year and is doing better than ever. The city of Nappanee will see us again this year on Aug. 17th at McCormick Creek Golf Course along with 180 of our closest friends (golfers and volunteers)

Thanks to our major sponsors, INOVA, Martins Grocery Stores, AM General, McCormick Motors, Forest River and OSMC, we are the largest single fundraiser for the USO in Indiana, raising over $45,000 in the last four years.

Every year Susan and Lisa here at Wightman Petrie put their all into organizing the best event possible. This year, most of our unsponsored costs are being covered by donations from businesses and individuals who understand the important mission the USO plays in the lives of this nation’s war fighters and their families.

All the funds raised by this event stay here in the state and are put to good use by the USO’s 100 percent volunteer staff, supporting deploying service members at camp Atterbury and other training centers here in the state.

Raising funds here in the state allows the USO to direct limited dollars elsewhere to support the USO mission worldwide.

For those of us who have children in the armed forces, or have served ourselves, we know firsthand why we need to keep doing this. It’s our duty and the very least we can do.
