ESC Elite evaluations: The ESC Elite AAU program based at the Elkhart Sports Center will conduct evaluations Sept. 15 and 22 for third- through eighth-grade boys and girls interested in joining. Cost is $5. For more information or to sign up visit www.elkhartsportscenter.com.
ESC early fall leagues: The Elkhart Sports Center offers early fall boys and girls youth leagues for fifth/sixth grade, junior high and high school. Leagues start Sept. 9 and run for five weeks on Sundays. Cost is $75 if signing up and paying online by Aug. 21, or $85 after that until the Sept. 4 deadline. Eastlake advanced training: Eastlake Basketball Academy is hosting its Super Elite Preseason high school boys basketball training sessions for advanced players through Oct. 15. Indiana Waverunner tryouts: Tryouts for the 2013 season are Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Goshen College field, Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Bethel College field and Sunday, Aug. 26 at North Webster Little League fields. Registration times for each of those dates with the tryouts following a half-hour later are 11:30 a.m. for 10U and 12U, 1 p.m. for 14U and 3 p.m. for 16U and 18U. Michiana Mystique tryouts: The Michiana Mystique plan tryouts for Aug. 11-12 at Melissa Cook Stadium on the Notre Dame campus. The tryouts for the 2012-13 fast-pitch season are for 12U through 18U players. The Saturday schedule is 9 to 11 a.m. for 10U and 12U, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for 14U, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for 16U and 5 to 7 p.m. for 18U. Those selected will be asked to return Sunday for a controlled scrimmage. Tryout fee is $20. A portion of that will pay for facility use and expenses, with the remaining portion donated to Irish softball coach Deanna Gumpf’s Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride to raise funds for cancer research. Indiana Thunder tryouts: The following tryouts for the fast-pitch team will be held Saturday at the Penn High School junior varsity field — 10U (Kols), noon to 2 p.m.; 12U (Lewandowski), 2 to 4 p.m. for first-year 12U (core moving up from 10U); 12U (Griman), 4 to 6 p.m. for second-year 12U with 2000 birthdates. The Sunday schedule is — 16U (Allen), 10 a.m. to noon; 14U (Woods), 3 to 5 p.m.; and the new 8U team (Zachary), 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be a 16U tryout from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Run for Research: The seventh annual walk/run, sponsored by IU Health Center for Cancer Care, is at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in the Goshen Center for Cancer Care parking lot. All proceeds from this event benefit the Center’s Research Institute. There will be a 5K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun walk. The 5K events are $20 with advance registration and $25 the day of the event. The 1-mile fun walk is $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event. 3-for-3 Triathlon: The inaugural 3-for-3 Triathlon is set for Aug. 26 in South Bend. The event will benefit the Center for the Homeless, YMCA of Michiana Inc. and the Alcohol & Addictions Resource Center. There is a kayaking option for those ages 16 and over who prefer that to the swim portion. For ages 16 and over, the course features a 200-yard swim (or the kayaking), 10-mile bike and 2.5-mile run. Ages 12-15 will swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles and run a half mile. Those under 12 will swim 50 yards, bike 3 miles and run a half mile. For more information call 287-9622 or visit www.michianaymca.
