Two injured after motorcycle crash while trying to escape Goshen police

A police pursuit in Goshen ended when two men on a motorcycle crashed early Tuesday morning.

According to a release from the Goshen Police Department, the chase started around 1:55 a.m. when an officer saw the two men on the motorcycle passing vehicles at high speed on the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Pike Street. When the officer turned his lights on and attempted to make a traffic stop, the motorcycle sped up instead of stopping.

The pursuit continued east on Pike Street, with the motorcycle running through a red light on the intersection of Pike and Second streets and turning south on Third street.

The driver of the motorcycle turned onto Lincolnway East after failing to stop at three intersections with stop signs, and lost control of the motorcycle on 2600 the block of Lincolnway East. He drove off the road and crashed on property of Rap Automotive, 2602 Lincolnway East.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Carlos Delagdo, 24 of 1204 Twinflower Drive, Goshen. Erick Ponce, 18, of 20676 Meadow Lane, Goshen, was the passenger.

Delgado was treated by Goshen paramedics and transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for further assessment. Ponce had a broken leg right leg, which was also bleeding. He was treated by Goshen paramedics, taken to IU Health Goshen and then flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Both men had injuries that weren’t life threatening, according to police.

Delgado was arrested on charges of driving while suspended, speeding, disregarding a lighted signal, resisting law enforcement resulting in serious bodily injury and operating while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury.
