A home day care where 22-month-old Skylar Bullocks nearly drowned was ordered to shut down by the Family and Social Service of Indiana Friday.

The child, who has not been identified by authorities, was flown to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health after she was pulled from a pool at an Osceola home day care Thursday around 1:50 p.m. As of Friday, she remained in “very critical condition” said Osceola Police Chief Phil Brown.

Brown said the child fell into a pool at 78 Beverly Court. Another 4-year-old child who was nearby saw what happened and tried to pull the girl from the pool until adults noticed and the girl was pulled out.

Brown, who was the first to respond at the scene started administering CPR to the child before medics arrived.

The child was transported to St. Joseph Medical Care in Mishawaka and was later flown to Riley’s Hospital.

South Bend, Penn and Osceola rescue units responded to the scene, as well as St. Joseph County police and the Metro Homicide Division.

Melanie Brizzi, who works at the Bureau of Child Care, said the home day care could take two routes in order to continue operating. She said the home day care must either reduce the number of children that are being cared for to five or fewer, or the owner must be licensed to continue caring for the same number of children.
