Same-sex couples plan to pucker up this evening at Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country to challenge the fast food chain’s stance on gay marriage.

Word spread quickly about National Same Sex Kiss Day on the heels of Wednesday’s Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, an event that former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee organized to support comments by the restaurant’s CEO, Dan Cathy. Cathy recently sparked a national debate after expressing opposition to same-sex marriage.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Mishawaka Chick-fil-A on Main Street on Wednesday. For some, the event was a way to publicly take a stand against same-sex marriage, and for others, the day was about the the protection of the First Amendment right to free speech.

Same-sex couples are planning a counter protest at 8 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at Chick-fil-A restaurants where they will share a kiss to show support for marriage equality for gay couples. A Facebook page set up for the event had roughly 13,800 confirmed attendees nationwide as of this afternoon.
