Edwardsburg Police Chief Kenneth Wray said Matthew Brown injured an officer and two others who responded to an early morning emergency call Tuesday. Police and emergency medical staff were dispatched for a drug overdose near Redfield Street and Elkhart Road. Shortly after, Wray said a family member called police again warning that Brown had become violent.
“The officer rolled up to the house, knocked on the door and the subject knocked him off the porch into a fence and through some brush,” Wray said.
Wray said Brown choked officer Kevin English, who was taken to the hospital for “a short period” for moderate injuries. Two ambulance attendants who arrived at the scene were also injured with scrapes and bruises in an attempt to subdue Brown, Wray said. English is out of the hospital but not yet back to work, Wray added.
Brown is facing four charges for the attack — one count of assault bodily harm less than murder, one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer causing injury and two counts of aggravated assault
Brown is being held at Cass County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He will appear in district court Tuesday, according to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
