ELKHART — One Elkhart and two South Bend Dollar Tree stores will be accepting donated school supplies for Operation Homefront until August 6 as part of the Back-to-School Brigade program.

The Dollar Tree stores at 280 C.R. 6 in Elkhart, at 1290 Ireland Road in South Bend and 3759 Portage Road Suite C in South Bend will accept school supplies purchased at those locations and elsewhere, according to a press release from Operation Homefront.

Backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders and other school supplies will be accepted. All items and monetary donations will go to military families in need throughout the country as they prepare to send their children back to school.

Supplies will be distributed to families at the beginning of the school year this fall.

The Back-to-School Brigade program raised more than $2 million in monetary donations and school supplies in 2011. Operation Homefront filled 30,000 backpacks with school supplies for military children.

This is the sixth year that Operation Homefront has held the Back-to-School Brigade.
