SHIPSHEWANA — Abraham A. Bontrager, 93, died at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday at home. He was born to Abraham R. and Susie (Christner) Bontrager in Elkhart County.

He married Mary Ellen Frey on Jan. 16, 1941. She died April 28, 2010.

Children Anna Marie (Delbert) Mast and Freeman Jay (Mary Ellen) Bontrager, both of LaGrange, Susie Ellen (John) Hostetler of Shipshewana, Elsie Mae (Richard) Stevens of New Paris, Mary Etta (Wayne) Miller of Shipshewana, Menno Laverne (LaFonda) Bontrager of Brooklyn, Mich., and Harley Wayne (Tina) Bontrager of Goshen; daughter-in-law Zandra Bontrager of Elm City, N.C.; 27 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and stepbrother Levi (Edna) Yoder of Topeka survive.

Children Ernest Dean, Amelia Irene, Alma Arlene and Lorene Kay Bontrager; siblings Amos and Harley Bontrager and Amelia Miller; six stepsiblings; and two grandchildren preceded him.

Visitation is all day today, July 19, at the family home, 7155 W 250 N, Shipshewana.

Services are at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Orville Miller’s home, 2070 N 700 W, Shipshewana.

Burial is in East Barren Cemetery.
