Man pulled from Elkhart River died of blunt force trauma to head, chest

ELKHART — A man, whose body was pulled from the Elkhart River Tuesday night, died of blunt force trauma to his chest and head, according to Elkhart County coroner John White.

The man was identified as 53-year-old Charles Wolfinger, who was found along the river behind Martin’s Supermarket shortly before 9 p.m., according to a press release from the Elkhart Police Department.

The Elkhart Fire Department assisted police in recovering the body. Wolfinger was pronounced dead at the scene.

White performed the autopsy on Wolfinger Wednesday afternoon, and said he has forwarded the information to Elkhart Police, who have yet to determine the manner of Wolfinger’s death.
