GOSHEN — In an effort to tighten the budget, the Goshen Public Library board has recommended reducing the library’s hours.

At its montly meeting Tuesday afternoon, the board proposed a six-and-a-half hour cutback from the library’s current 61.5-hour week. Five-and-a-half of those hours would be taken from weekday hours before 6 p.m., while nights and weekends would only be reduced by an hour.

The board proposed that the library open at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. The library would still close at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 5 p.m. Sunday, but would shut down at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The board agreed to hold voting on the recommendation until the Aug. 21 board meeting to allow time for the public to hear about the changes and to give their feedback.

If the board approves the recommendation at next month’s meeting, the changes would be effective beginning in September.
