Elkhart sheriff identifies suspect in fatal June hit and run
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Investigation Team has identified a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run last month.
Kevin William-Dean Meyer, 18, of Elkhart has been named as the suspect who struck Raymundo Machado Sabag, 60, around 3:35 a.m. June 7 as Sabag was riding his bike.
Sabag was going southbound on C.R. 17 south of the U.S. 20 underpass when he was struck. He was wearing reflective clothing at the time of the crash.
The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case.
Ed Windbigler, chief investigator for the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, said the case should be assigned to a prosecutor today. It will be a couple weeks before charges are filed since the suspect is not in custody.
Editor’s note: The family spelled the victim’s middle name as Machado. Police have spelled it as Macjado.
