Three people died in three separate car crashes Saturday morning.

The earliest accident was at 3:48 a.m. when a driver, who has not yet been identified, was headed east on Old U.S. 20, east of C.R. 1, at about 3:45 a.m. and ran off the south side of the road. The driver’s 1995 Toyota Corolla struck a tree and the front end of an unoccupied 2008 Chevrolet Silverado parked in a driveway at 29468 Old U.S. 20.

The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team responded to the accident. The driver’s name will be released once the victim is identified by the Elkhart County coroner.

About one hour later, Jared Lay of Bristol was killed in a single-car crash.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Lay, 22, was northbound on C.R. 23 south of C.R. 14 when his Jeep Wrangler left the roadway and hit a ditch, tree stump, mailbox and post. He was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle continued northbound off the road and hit another ditch, mailbox and a tree before rolling onto its side.

Lay was pronounced dead at the scene by medics and the Elkhart County Coroner John White, according to a police report.

The crash, which no one witnessed, is being investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Investigation Team.

The third fatal accident Saturday morning was also a single-vehicle crash.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Brandon Eigsti, 25, of Warsaw was driving a pick-up truck pulling a travel trailer headed south on S.R. 15 when it ran off the road south of C.R. 50 at about 9 a.m., hitting a tree and sliding into a ditch on the west side of S.R. 15.

Steven Eigsti, 21, of Warsaw, a passenger in the truck, was trapped inside the truck after the accident. Police needed to extract Steven Eigsti from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries.

Brandon Eigsti had a bloody nose from the crash.

According to the crash report, Brandon Eigsti was wearing a seat belt, while Steven Eigsti was not.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
