ELKHART — Several signs around the space declared “122 Days to Victory,” while the 24 telephones and piles of candidates’ stickers and pamphlets were organized and ready for volunteers to use to publicize Indiana’s Republican hopefuls.

With the fall election in sight, Jackie Walorski, GOP candidate for Indiana’s Second District U.S. House seat; Mike Pence, GOP gubernatorial candidate; and Richard Mourdock, GOP U.S. Senate candidate, unveiled the North Central Indiana Victory Center Saturday in Elkhart.

The three candidates spoke at the ribbon-cutting event at which they explained that the Elkhart center will be one of nine in the state used to support Republican candidates running for various offices.

Indiana Republican candidates and volunteers will use the space at 1630 S. Nappanee St. for phoning voters and to coordinate door-to-door efforts.

“I’m going to be in here every night that I can so you know that I’m grateful, so you know that we’re thankful,” Walorski said to a crowd of about 150 supporters at the center.

Walorski, Pence and Mourdock each formally spoke at the event, eliciting rousing applause and cheers while also spending time mingling among supporters.

In her speech, Walorski specifically stated her displeasure with the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the Affordable Care Act, saying that she “will not back off of a full repeal” of the health care initiative.

She noted, though, that the Supreme Court decision has rallied Republicans.

“It raised up an army of people I haven’t seen in a while,” she said.

Dale Stickel, chairman of Elkhart County Republican Party, said that it can feel like northern Indiana is ignored by state candidates. Because of that, he said he’s glad to see the interest that Pence specifically and the other candidates have taken in the area.

Walorski faces Democratic U.S. House candidate Brendan Mullen. The Democratic gubernatorial candidate is John Gregg. State Treasurer Mourdock faces Joe Donnelly, who holds Indiana’s Second District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
