MIDDLEBURY — The head of Middlebury’s wastewater treatment plant has been fired following a personnel investigation.

Bradley Clark, who had worked at the plant since 1990, is no longer a town employee, town council president Gary O’Dell confirmed Thursday. A new plant superintendent has not been named, O’Dell added.

“We needed to take a look at our whole situation down there and how the leadership was going, and the cooperation of the employees and so on, and we felt very honestly that it was the move we needed to make,” O’Dell said, adding that he could not comment on the investigation’s details. “We felt that he needed to be let go.”

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department announced in early June that investigators were looking into a complaint that a town employee had been downloading pornography, possibly child pornography, at the sewer department. The department reported no criminal activity at the time. Capt. Jim Bradberry, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said Thursday that the investigation is open but did not have further updates.

Town manager Mark Salee said in a news release earlier this week that the town had closed its review of the situation and is focusing on major projects coming up at the wastewater treatment plant. The Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission has agreed to support funding for projects that will expand the plant and improve water pressure in parts of Middlebury.

“The wastewater treatment plant and the town are growing very well considering the economic structure of the country,” O’Dell said. “We have a need to expand that plant, and of course we’re grateful that we can continue to grow as we are.”
