GOSHEN — Two men were taken to Elkhart County Jail, arrested for lighting fireworks that ignited a grass fire.

Jay Zheng, 25, of 1213 Westwood Drive, and Joe Dorbin, 29, of 14368 Redfox Drive, Granger, were arrested for Violation of an Emergency Order, a Class B Misdemeanor, and transported to Elkhart County Jail.

According to Goshen Police, the fire started about 4:13 p.m. today, July 4, at 1213 Westwood Drive and spread to neighboring lawns, damaging or destroying the yards at four residences. No structural damage or injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Goshen Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames.

The men violated the Disaster Emergency Proclamation issued by the Elkhart County Commissioners, which banned the use of fireworks because of the drought.
