Elkhart County’s fireworks ban notwithstanding, there are plenty of things to do. Here’s a list of some activities going on today, July 4:

• All of Elkhart municipal parks are open, including Ideal Beach, McNaughton Splash Park and the Pierre Moran Swimming Pool.

• The U.S. Army Field Band will perform at 7 p.m., at McNaughton Park in Elkhart.

• The Upper St. Joseph Flotilla, a boat show, will take place around 9 p.m., along the St. Joseph River in Elkhart. The theme is “Light the Night” and the flotilla of boats will form at 8:30 p.m. at Bulldog Crossing and travel the river to Martin’s Landing on Jackson Boulevard near Alfred Street, where bleachers will be placed for viewers.

• In Goshen, Shanklin Park Swimming Pool, 411 W. Plymouth Ave., will be open from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Daily swimming passes are free for children 2 and younger, $2.50 for youth and seniors and $3.50 for adults. An extra dollar is charged for non-residents. Splash pads will be open for free from noon to 8 p.m. at Rieth Park at the corner of South 13th and Illinois streets and Walnut Park at North Fifth Street and East Oakridge Avenue.

• The Elcona Country Club east of Elkhart is still holding its annual fireworks show, which isn’t open to the public. It starts at dusk, around 10 p.m.

• Nappanee holds a day of festivities starting at 8 a.m., centered at Stauffer Park. Activities will include everything from the Junior Olympics and a community sale to an 11 a.m. parade and “Nappanee’s Got Talent” contest at 3 p.m. The fireworks show will start around 10 p.m. Go to Nappanee’s Facebook page for more details.

• The town of Syracuse is sponsoring a fireworks display, starting at dusk, around 10 p.m. One of the best places to watch is from Lakeside Park in Syracuse.

Elkhart County’s fireworks ban prohibits personal use of fireworks. Because of the dry weather, the cities of Elkhart and Goshen have put the plug on plans for their public fireworks shows, though Elkhart is planning a fireworks extravaganza for Sept. 3, Labor Day.

The Simonton Lake Sportsman’s Club postponed its annual fireworks show, which was to have been on June 30.
