The Thomas E. Garl family enjoyed combined birthday and anniversary dinner Saturday at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend.

Thomas Garl was 90 years old on March 13. He graduated in 1940 from Elkhart High School and served three years in the Army Air Force as a navigator on a B-24 bomber in World War II. He was employed by NIBCO Inc. for 44 years before retiring in 1986 as corporate traffic manager. In 1947, he married Charolette Plummer in Grace Lutheran Church. They will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Monday.

The dinner was given by their three children, Penny (Larry) Groth of South Bend, Terry (Kathlyn) Garl of Osceola and Tim (Jennifer) Garl of Bloomington, and their seven grandchildren.
