NILES, Mich. — Robert L. Weaver, 91, of Niles, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born March 11, 1921, in Elkhart, Ind., to Dallas and Irene (Replogle) Weaver. On July 26, 1942, he married Virginia Rose Miller, who preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2006.
Robert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He served as personnel non-commissioned officer with Gen. Eisenhower’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces in England, France and Germany. He supervised and directed the work of six men who prepared correspondence, records and special orders. He was a witness to the signing of the peace treaty.
Robert attended Open Door Church in Elkhart. He enjoyed and looked forward to spending time with his friend, Charlie, as they ministered to the sick and elderly. He served as associate chaplin at Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, from 1997 to 2000 and was also the owner/operator of WW Sales Inc. in South Bend, Ind.
Survivors include sons Larry O. (Barbara J.) Weaver of Granger, Ind., and Robert C. (Linda K.) of Niles; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Russell “Bud” (Barbara) Weaver of Snowflake, Ariz., and Dallas Dean (Jo Ann) Weaver of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by brothers Dallas Weaver, who died in infancy, and Don Weaver.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles. Pastor Dean Rice, the Rev. (Dr.) Ani Ikene and the Rev. Daniel Miller will officiate. The family will gather privately for interment.
