Firefighters respond to a pair of grass fires Tuesday
The Elkhart Fire Department responded at about 12:30 p.m. to a fire near the Elkhart Municipal Airport. Upon arrival they saw several grass fires around airport property.
Battalion chief Brett Schrock said the Osolo and Cleveland Fire Departments aided Elkhart in controlling the fire, and were able to contain it from spreading to a wheat field that is adjacent to the area where they were working.
Schrock said the fire department is investigating the cause of the fire, although he confirmed the dry weather could have been a contributing factor to how it spread.
Just after 4 p.m., Concord, Baugo and Elkhart fire departments responded to a field fire behind a home at 2913 Pleasant Plain Ave.
According to officials, the fire was under control and put out within 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is unknown.
