ELKHART — Standing behind the 18th green, Marina Filer and Shaye MacDonald each admit they don’t know a lot about golf.

But there they were on on a picture-pefect Saturday, playing the part of a caddie during the second round of the 81st annual Greater Elkhart Men’s Golf Championship at Christiana Creek Country Club.

The 20-year-old Filer was carrying the bag for her uncle, Rocco Lisa, while MacDonald pulled the cart for her boyfriend, Bryan Russell.

“My mom has played golf, but I really only know to stay quiet when the guys are swinging,’’ Filer, a St. Francis University student admitted. “Hopefully I can learn a few things so if I do play sometime, I’ll have an idea about the game.’’

“I had to work during the first round (Friday), so today was the first time I’ve been out here,’’ MacDonald said. “I couldn’t tell him which club to use of course, but I’ve been here to support him and it’s been fun.’’

For the record, Lisa is tied for first in Flight Three, while Johnson is 10 strokes back.

Both ladies say they’ll be back today, June 24, when the final round of the tournament tees off at at Bent Oak Golf Club in Elkhart.

When the leaders tee off around 12:50 p.m., a great final round should be in the offing.

Kyle Miller shot a four-under 68 on Saturday to give him a two-day todal of 140 and a one-stroke lead over Brady Klotz heading into the finals. First-round leader Pat Mohan shot a 75 on Saturday and now sits third, three shots out. Gavin Wilkinson who is at 144 after two rounds, will complete a strong final foursome.

“I had a good day ... things relly went my way,’’ Miller said. “I was able to hit my wedges well and its seemed like all my putts from six-to-eight feet out were falling. I felt good out there all day.’’

Miller already owns a pair of Goshen City Tournament titles _ winning in 2009 and ‘10, before finishing second last year, so he has great experience in tournament golf.’’

“I know if I make a big mistake, I can let all kinds of people back in and give them a shot at winning,’’ Miller added. “I just have to play solid and keep the ball in the fairway.’

In many city tournaments, the three-under that Klotz has shot over the first two days would be good enough for the lead. Althought one-shot out, Klotz knows he has a great shot at his first title.

“I feel good about my game, but the biggest things is I haven’t made many mistakes out there,’’ Klotz said. “I like where I am right now and if I can shoot in the 60’s, I think I’ll have a good shot at winning.

Miller and Klotz played together the first two rounds of the tournament and for a semester, were teammates at the University of Indianapolis _ before Klotz transfered to Bethel, where is the No. 1 golfer for coach Chris Hess.

Both players say they have played Bent Oak numerous times, although neither have played there recently.

“Bent Oak is a scoreable course if you’re on your game, but I believe it all will come down to putting,’’ Klotz said. “My goal is to get off to a fast start then then try to be patient and stick to what I’m doing. But since they opened up the “city’’ tournament to the entire county, this field is so deep that guys could shoot really low and be right back in it.’’

Although playing in First Flight, Mark Landis is just six strokes out of the overall lead and could win the tournament. Landis leads First Flight by seven strokes. Other Flight leaders are Chris Horoky and Philip Ummel (Second), Lisa, Drew Stutz and Ryan Ullery (Third), Mitchell Wilson (Fourth), Nathan Bellamy (Fifth) and Mike Lapp (Sixth).
