GOSHEN — It’s time for gardening enthusiasts to show off the fruits (or vegetables) of their springtime labors.

Whatever your green thumb nurtures to perfection, there is likely at least one contest for you out the 165 horticulture contests at Elkhart County 4-H Fair. The biggest exception? No noxious weeds allowed.

To enter your planting project, bring your exhibit to the Ag Hall on the fairgrounds between 5 and 7 p.m. July 18 or between 7 and 9:30 a.m. July 19 in entry ready condition. No late entries will be accepted. These contests are open to all ages.

The entries must have been grown by the contestants, and only one entry per person is allowed in each class. There is a $1 entry fee for the first exhibit in each section and 50 cents for each additional entry in the same section.

Premiums will be paid for first, second and third places at $2.50, $2 and $1, respectively.

Here are the categories:

• Potted plants — flowering must have blooms at the time of showing,

• Potted plants (foliage),

• Cactus and sand or cactus dish gardens,

• Planter or dish gardens,

• Hanging baskets,

• Arrangement of cut flowers,

• Cut flowers,

• Grains and hay,

• Above-ground vegetables,

• Below-ground vegetables,

• Miscellaneous, and

• Trial categories — tallest soybean plant.

Pick up exhibits between 4 and 7 p.m. July 30.
