MILLERSBURG — Army Pfc. Jared Yarger of Millersburg is recovering from injuries he sustained June 8 in Afghanistan.

Yarger, a Fairfield High School graduate, was hit by shrapnel in his forehead while in combat, said Sheila Rutter, Yarger’s mother. He was treated initially in Afghanistan, where surgery was performed, but was later flown to Germany for health screenings. He was taken to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where he was stationed initially.

While he will have some scars and is recovering from traumatic brain injury, he is in a stable condition, Rutter said.

Yarger received a Purple Heart while he was treated in Afghanistan.

Rutter said Yarger is hoping to get some time off in August.
