ELKHART — A 22-year-old Granger man injured himself after jumping off an overpass onto the Indiana Toll Road on Sunday morning.

According to Cpl. Chase Overbeeke of the Indiana State Police, Michael David Lee Noffsinger was reportedly standing alone on the C.R. 19 and Cassopolis Street overpass just after 7 a.m.

Several passersby alerted police, but as they were responding, Noffsinger jumped onto the toll road below.

He was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. As of Sunday afternoon, hospital officials now say Noffsinger’s condition is stable.

During the course of an investigation, police found no evidence of foul play or indication that Noffsinger was forced or thrown from the overpass.
