Original story:
GOSHEN — Four children were injured, including one with head trauma, as the result of a two-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of S.R. 15 and U.S. 20 north of Goshen.
Alia Villalobos, 9, of LaGrange, a passenger in the front seat of one of the vehicles, was unconscious at the scene and was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Three other children in the back seat — Kitana Ryan, 9, George Ryan, 7, and Darwin Villalobos, 2 — were transported to IU Health Center Goshen with contusions and complaints of pain.
The children were passengers in a vehicle driven by Laura Ryan, 28, of LaGrange, according to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. Ryan had been traveling southbound on S.R. 15 and was stopped. As she attempted to turn east onto U.S. 20, her vehicle and a 1997 BMW driven by Jacob Mitchell, 30, of Mishawaka, collided. Mitchell was northbound on S.R. 15 attempting to turn east onto U.S. 20.
The accident happened at 5:09 p.m. Elkhart County Sheriff's investigation team responded to the call as did emergency personnel from the Jefferson Township, Concord, Middlebury and Goshen fire departments.
EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story misstated which vehicle the children were passengers in.
