ELKHART — Elkhart’s newest brew pub opened briefly Friday.
Owners Chip and Summer Lewis opened at 11 a.m. after months of working on Iechyd Da Brewing Co.
After two private events Wednesday and Thursday, the brew pub opened for lunch with six beers on tap, plus root beer and ginger beer.
But a cooler problem prompted the business to close in the afternoon. It should open again today, June 2, according to the owners.
The Lewises started working on the concept a year ago and rented the building at 317 N. Main St. in September. Fans gained through tastings and social media had been anticipating the opening. “It’s that moment when you get to do the live reveal to the world. It’s exciting,” said Summer Lewis.
The menu has four pizzas, four sandwiches and several snacks, but is likely to expand in the coming weeks.
“It’s just time,” Lewis said of the opening, which eTruth.com’s beer blogger Eric Strader announced Thursday online.
The brew pub is for adults 21 and older. Hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 to 11 Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Phone: 293-0506.
