ELKHART — The Elkhart Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating a report of a man who had been shot and cut.

The Elkhart Police Department has identified the victim as Flavio Contreras, 19, of Elkhart. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department first responded to the scene 1:15 a.m. Thursday, May 24.

The investigation started with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responding to a report late Wednesday night of a suspicious person on C.R. 19 north of C.R. 8. Officers found a 19-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds and cuts. The man was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24, Elkhart General Hospital would not release any information regarding Contreras’s condition.
